Get Informed About Remediation Before Hiring
Mold, although unpleasant to look at and certainly unwanted in your home or business, has a very necessary function in nature.
There are more than one hundred thousand different species or fungi that exist naturally in today’s world. Many species have
existed for millions of years and for the most have a limited negative impact on you. Upon germination or reproduction, fungi
become mold. Germination of fungi happens when fungi, which are naturally present in materials in your home like drywall, carpet
and insulation, are exposed to moisture. This is sometimes referred to as “the wicking effect”. As long as moisture is present
the fungi (spores) will continue to reproduce into mold.
Every day you are exposed to thousands of different types of fungi that exist naturally in plants, fruits and vegetables, soil and textiles. Normal, natural exposure is generally not harmful to your health. It is when these fungi reproduce into mold at unnatural levels in contained environments like your home and levels of exposure increase that they can become a serious health concern.
Most molds are simply harmless fungi, including most black molds, which are often mistakenly thought to be toxic. Black mold, which was recently referred to as “killer mold” by the New York Daily News, is often thought of as one species. Toxic Black mold has a number of species. The most common called “Stachy”, shorted for its actual name Stachybotrys Chartarum, is a cause for major concern. Health problems related to this mold have been documented in humans and pets since the 1930s. Other toxic black molds are:
Memnoniella echinata, a member of the “Stachy” family, is particularly toxic, irritating and easily airborne. It is most commonly found on wet drywall. Not all black molds are “Stachy” or toxic mold and only testing can verify the presence of Stachy and its toxic by-product called mycotoxins.
Toxic molds and their biological metabolites, the mycotoxins, are silent and relentless attackers of human health.

Mold Remediation In Phoenix - Do It Yourself
Small AreasMold remediation of small areas can be cleaned using a household cleaner. A small area is less than three patches with each patch less than three feet by three feet in size.
- To remove fungi scrub the area with detergent (preferably an unscented detergent).
- Sponge with a clean, wet rag and dry quickly and thoroughly.
Always wear personal protective equipment, including a disposable dust mask (3M 8210 or equivalent) and household rubber gloves, when doing mold remediation.
Larger AreasAreas of mold consisting of three or more patches with each patch more than 3 feet by 3 feet in size, should be cleaned by a certified mold remediation professional.
In all cases, the underlying cause of water accumulation or prolonged high humidity must be corrected or fungi will continue to grow or reoccur. Regularly inspect your home for signs of moisture problems or water damage (musty odors, condensation, and discoloration).
